Introducing the Acer Aspire One 3G
Why the Acer Aspire One 3G is a good buy.
The Acer Aspire One are subcompact notebooks or netbooks manufactured by Quanta Computers for Acer Inc which is based on the Intel Atom platform and consists of the Intel Atom processor, Intel 945GSE Express chipset and Intel 82801GBM (ICH7M) I/O controller, and is available in several shell colors: seashell white, sapphire blue, golden brown, onyx black, and coral pink.
The Aspire One model line has one for everyone, from an 8.9in to 11.6in screen, with 80Gb to 160Gb SATA HDD, bluetooth and a choice of OS between XP Home Edition SP3, Linux and modified to run the MacOS.
They’ve been around since July 2008, so why the sudden interest. Well, last week during my little rendezvous at the Zain Office in Tamale I shook hands with the Aspire One A150X-3G. Comes with webcam and the gig is the inbuilt 3G modem. These modems like the ones available on the market uses the cell phone GSM chips and is slotted into a small slit behind the battery.
It was a sweet a little machine and though the meeting was short it was worthwhile. The new Zain data-only chip I was buying was slotted in and boom it was smooth, plus we were in a 3G zone. These models come with 3 to 6 hrs of battery life so I hope u catch the drift by now.
Why buy a modem for your laptop and carry your huge laptop plus modem around for internet, when under 3.0-pounds and for $400 you can have this sweet machine with a data contract from Zain or MTN who have 3G services at funny areas. At home you can switch back to your desktop or laptop. Hmmmmmmm.
If you do not have options of buying this piece from the US or UK then Zain has a nice price tag of GHC 900.00 with a data contract. This would’ve been sweeter if there was a way to pay by installment. Rival networks this is your chance. I am already thinking about getting this or a new BlackBerry Bold, lol……
Competitors in this space include the HP Mini 1000, Dell Inspiron Mini 9 and the Lenovo S-10. Remember its a netbook not a laptop.
